The purpose of this video is to acquaint viewers with the rich history of the acequia culture in New Mexico, and provide current perspectives from New Mexicans deeply involved in the practice and perpetuation of the acequia culture. This video explores the historic roots of the acequia culture, and explains the functions and terminology of this 400 year old irrigation practice and culture in New Mexico. The film begins with the activities associated with the Spring Ditch Cleaning, and introduces the viewer to the role that the acequias serve in managing scarce water supplies, maintaining a culture that creates true "communities", and the current issues facing the acequia culture.
