Excerpt - From the Founders
"No one involved with The Quivira Coalition anticipated the extraordianry public response which followed our first newsletter, grazing conference and two site tours. It is obvious that we have struck a nerve. The public is the judge and jury in the grazing debate and what the public is saying is that they want both healthy ranches and healthy ecosystems. Those who wish to sweep ranchers from the land and those who refuse to change their ranching practices are in for a disappointment.
"We wish to thank all the newspaper reporters who gave us coverage throughout the state and their editors who helped frame the debate as a question of fairness. The support of the New Mexico State Land Office, Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service and Agricultural Service has also been heartening.
"We especially want to thank all of those individuals and organizations who have made donations to Quivira - you are keeping us going."
